    FAQs

"How does an infrared sauna work? Is it different from a traditional sauna?"

Infrared heat is light on a spectrum that our eyes can’t see. Infrared saunas use infrared heaters to emit heat which is a narrow band of energy within the 5.6 to 15-micron level. This type of energy closely resembles the natural human spectrum so it’s easily absorbed by the body tissue. The body reacts by sweating profusely which has many health benefits including detoxification, improved blood flow, circulation and weight loss. Learn more about the difference between traditional and infrared saunas.

How can I adjust the temperature on the Harvia heater?

It has a temperature setting from high to low but it’s a mechanical dial so it won’t be precise. However, it will range from 110-160 depending on the dial setting. It’s just not a digital dial that tells you how hot it is. You can use a digital thermometer inside the sauna and then adjust the dial to the low-high setting that works for them. It does have an analog hygrometer inside it as well to tell the temp and humidity.

"How is the sauna shipped? Can it fit through my bedroom doorway?"

SunRay Saunas contain wooden panels that are pre-packaged in cardboard boxes and then placed on a wooden pallet to ensure the sauna arrives without damage. The cardboard boxes can be removed from the pallet and will fit through any door size 24” or greater.

"How long does it take to assemble the sauna?"

Most 1 and 2 person saunas models take about an hour to assemble; units larger than 2 people will take a bit more time and varies based on unit and size. Two people are required. For more information on the assembly of the unit please see the assembly instructions.

"Are there any special tools required to assemble the sauna?"

No. The only tool you need to assemble the sauna is a Phillips head screwdriver or drill with a Phillips head bit.

"What voltage does the unit run on?"

It is a hardwired setup. You can attach a plug (we do not provide it) if you choose to, or have your electrician hard wire the heater to a junction box (we do not provide it). The wire from the sauna requires a 220V – 20amp double pole dedicated circuit. The 3 wires at the end of the power cord at 2 HOT / 1 GROUND. There is NO Neutral.

"Can I place the sauna on the second floor?"

Yes, you can place a sauna on the second floor. Most saunas weigh between 300-400lbs in total and this weight is often divided by 2 or 3 crates.

"Can I use the sauna outdoors?"

All SunRay saunas except the outdoor models must be used indoors. They are not suitable for outdoor use and this voids the warranty. If you do not plan to use the unit indoors, view our outdoor sauna collection

"How do I clean the sauna and how frequently?"

First, unplug the sauna and make sure it is cool before cleaning. To clean the wooden interior of your sauna mix 3 teaspoons of baking soda into a gallon of warm water. Use a towel to wipe down the interior with the baking soda and water mixture. Then wipe the sauna down with a wet towel and let dry. The glass in your sauna can be cleaned with glass cleaner. If you have an outdoor sauna, use a standard garden hose on a low/mist setting to wash out the interior. Make sure to leave the door open so the sauna can dry.

The sauna should be cleaned every 6 months or at your discretion if you are using it regularly. Using a towel to sit on while in the sauna will capture a lot of the sweat and thereby reduce the frequency of cleaning the sauna.

"How long does the model take to heat up?"

Infrared saunas take roughly 20 minutes to heat up. Traditional saunas are a bit longer. Learn more

The sauna is working EXCELLENT so far.I have only used it less than six times currently. But I must WARN anyone reading this they say in their instructions that it could be put together in an hour! That is TOTAL B.S.. Not with their LOUSY instructions. It took a licensed electrician & myself over 5 hours to assemble.Otherwise so far so GREAT! Absolutely EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!!!!! I would HIGHLY recommend,in spite of the LOUSY INSTRUCTIONS for assembly!

Awesome, we love it and have used it just about every day since we received it. Very easy to assemble but instructions were lacking a bit. The help line easily navigated us through the set up.

Doesn't get hot enough. Needs insulation.

In order for a sauna to have therapeutic value, it needs to get really hot. So for this sauna there is a little insulation required. Once the ceiling is insulated and sealed, and weather striping is applied to the entry, it's much better. The ceiling panel on mine didn't sit flush with the frame because the wood is a little warped. I could see through a gap into the room. Needless to say, the heat escaped easily. Insulating the ceiling panel is easy however. The protective Styrofoam boards that the sauna is packed with are perfect for this. So don't break or toss them. Simply cut them to size and drop them into the ceiling panel and then close with the provided board. Why this isn't done at the factory is beyond me. This sauna also loses heat through the pretty glass panels and the door. It's not by accident that commercial saunas have thick insulated doors :) All in all though, it's a very good looking sauna and I'm very happy with it. A suggestion I have for the manufacturer is to give the customer a choice of heaters. That way one could chose a stronger unit for the 3 person sauna. As is, it's the same unit that comes with the smaller 2 person sauna which I assume gets much hotter. Anyways, don't let the lack of insulation deter you from buying this unit, it's a super easy, quick and inexpensive fix.

My only regret was not purchasing sooner. I have always wanted my own sauna after spending too many hours at my local gym. Heats up daily to 175F or more within 5-10 minutes of starting. Comes with all the basic of a traditional sauna and pretty easy to install and assemble.
